There are many opportunities for businesses and individuals to get involved in the work of Reading Success by 4th Grade.
Join Our Working Groups
Your time and talents can help impact our work greatly. We are working to get all of Springfield’s kids reading proficiently by the end of 3rd grade. See if your talents and interests align with our Work Groups and Committees:
- School Readiness:
Getting kids on track for a great kindergarten year and beyond.
- OST/Out of School Time:
Building literacy through summer and afterschool programs.
- Early Childhood & Data:
Supporting actionable data through the Community Data Warehouse.
- Early Childhood and Health:
Connecting early childhood educators and healthcare.
- Family Advisory:
Springfield parents, grandparents, and primary caregivers steering our family engagement work.
Attend Events
We host several events during the year. Only through your participation can we cultivate leadership, catalyze long-term change for gender equity, and advance the common good.
Become a Family Literacy Advocate
Our first institute, slated for Fall 2020, will bring together a diverse cohort of caregivers of children 0-8 who care about early childhood development, literacy, and advocacy. FLAs will engage with experts in each field to learn more and create a plan to collaborate with Springfield families and caregivers on these topics.
Create a Book Nook
Waiting time becomes reading time in a Book Nook, a space you create in your business for kids to read and look at books. Reading can happen anywhere, not just at school! Show the next generation that you mean business by creating a special space just for them. Use a table with a basket of books or a bookshelf with some great reads. Set up a small chair, couch, or even a comfy rug for kids. Need ideas? Want some support? Looking for books? Give us a call and we can connect you with the right people.
Already have a Book Nook? Take a picture and tag @Readby4thGrade on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. We’d love to feature you on our website or social media!
Give or Volunteer
Support a local early education center, sponsor an event in your community promoting early literacy or supporting parents of young children, or give to our 413families community texting program, which is always accepting gift cards and other giveaways for local families.
