Sheila joined the Davis Foundation as the Director of Early Literacy Initiatives in July 2023. In her previous position at Holyoke Community College (HCC), Sheila served as Chair of the Education Department, Associate Professor of Education, and Practicum Supervisor.
Sheila spearheaded bringing free childcare to HCC. She was part of the team that put together the proposal that led to the Itsy Bitsy Child Watch, which currently the only community college in Massachusetts to offer a free child watch service for its students.
Gould earned her Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art and a Minor in Coaching from Elms College, and a Master’s in Education with a concentration in Early Childhood from American International College. She also earned a Post Master’s Certificate in Early Education Research, Policy and Practice from the UMass Boston Institute for Early Education, Leadership and Innovation. She was also an Early Education Leadership Fellow at UMass Boston from 2020-2022.

The Irene E. and George A. Davis Foundation recently established the position of Director of Early Literacy Initiatives to build upon a decade plus of work in the Reading Success by 4th Grade initiative. Educator Sheila Gould has been hired for the new position and has begun the process of community outreach as she develops the plan for the way forward to support reading proficiency.
